The Chiefs consolidated their position at the top of the New Zealand Conference after claiming a 33-5 victory over Reds in Brisbane.
As the scoreline suggests this was a one-sided affair and the two-time champions outscored their hosts by eight tries to one with Seta Tamanivalu and Damian McKenzie leading the way with a brace apiece.
The result means the Chiefs can not be overtaken at the top of the New Zealand Conference table this weekend. They currently have 51 points from 14 matches with their closest rivals, the Crusaders, who play the Rebels in Christchurch on Saturday, on 45 points after the same number of matches.
The Reds, meanwhile, are second from bottom in the Australian Conference with 16 points from 14 matches.
The Reds were their own worst enemies and a combination of unforced errors and poor discipline played a huge part in their downfall. This was best illustrated during the latter part of the first half when they were reduced to 13 men after Nick Frisby and Jack Tuttle received yellow cards.
Frisby received his marching orders when he prevented Lachlan Boshier from scoring a certain try in the 29th minute and three minutes later, Tuttle followed suite after playing Damian McKenzie air.
The Chiefs’ free-flowing style yielded a try as early as the opening minute, Tamanivula rounding off a flowing move after Hendrik Tui conceded a turnover just outside his 22.
